Jaw Distraction

What is Jaw Distraction?
This is a specialist technique called distraction osteogenesis, where your jaw is grown to the exact size required. Surgery is initially carried out on either the upper or lower jaws to create the bone cuts. A special device is then used to lengthen the bone by 1mm per day over the next 2 weeks.
This surgery is usually reserved for very large gaps in the bite due to severely misaligned jaws. It is commonly used to widen extremely narrow upper jaws, and to lengthen both upper and lower jaws.
Benefits Of Jaw Distraction
This technique is reserved for severe cases where conventional surgery alone would be unable to give the perfect outcome. With distraction, we can maximise the cosmetic position of your jaws.
1. Improved quality of life and confidence due to the transformational change to the face
2. Improved facial appearance. Jaws and face will look in proportion, giving a beautiful smile
3. Improved breathing and reduced snoring
4. Improved bite allowing patients to bite and chew normally. Prevents early damage and wear of the teeth so they will last longer
5. Improved overall health due normal breathing and sleep
